The Oswego and Fulton Blessings in a Backpack programs will hold their annual “Count Your Blessings” Trivia Night on Friday, Nov. 1, at the Oswego Elks Lodge. The joint fundraiser will help provide weekend meals and snacks to around 600 of the most needy children attending Fulton and Oswego schools. The evening will include a silent auction and raffle. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and competition begins at 7 p.m. Get tickets at the West First Street, Oswego, branch of Pathfinder Bank or by calling 315-297-7802. Cost is $30 to play, or $15 to attend, light meal included.
The Oswego Players’ production of “I Take This Man” by Jack Sharkey will move to the church’s Great Hall for the final two performances Oct. 25 and 26. Enjoy a light-hearted evening with friends and members of our community, beginning with a buffet dinner and continuing with the play, dessert at intermission. Described as “an outrageous concoction of wild, warm and lightning-paced hilarity that is perfect for the entire family,” the play begins at the end of a Boston marathon. Admission is $30 for the dinner and show, $10 for the show only. A percentage of the proceeds will benefit the Church of the Resurrection.
End your busy day with a brief, peaceful service that includes Holy Eucharist. The Episcopal Church of the Resurrection offers these Wednesday evening services in the Great Hall from through October 30 to serve people who cannot attend Sunday services or who would like an additional time for worship during the week. Details at 315-343-3501.
The church book club, Resurrection Readers, welcomes anyone who would like to join. It generally meets this year at 6:30 p.m. the first Wednesday of the month from October to June in the parlor of the church. At the July meeting, readers choose the coming year’s selections. Please call 315-342-2417 to get on the email list or verify date and location of the month's meeting.
Evening prayer services, conducted by Pastor Bruce Schrader, take place in the Great Hall the last Sunday of the month at 6:30 p.m. in fall and spring months. Questions? Call 315-343-3501.
Packing for Blessings in a Backpack
Resurrection along with our partner parish, Grace Lutheran Church, provides hundreds of Oswego schoolchildren with meals and snacks for weekends and breaks during the school year. The program has grown every year. This year volunteers will pack 400 bags each week — Wednesdays at 3:30 p.m. in the Great Hall. To lend a hand, call 315-297-7802.
Salvation Army project
A church team, in coordination with Grace Lutheran, prepares and serves lunch at the Salvation Army the third Saturday of the month. If you’d like to help cook or serve, contact Diane Fernaays (315-529-5257, firstname.lastname@example.org) or Sam Linn (315-342-5630, email@example.com).
Tuesdays at 7 p.m. in the Rectory, a varying group meets around the dining table to discuss the readings scheduled for the next Sunday’s service. Curious? Drop in! The readings are listed for two months in advance in the church newsletter, Resurrection News.
